Catherine Holbrook's Previous Projects

The Cobweb Orchestra

Catherine has a long-standing association with The Cobweb Orchestra, which welcomes players of all standards regardless of their previous experience. As well as running the York Cobwebs group Catherine also leads study days, conduct concerts (including family concerts), & performs with the bassoon. She also composes & orchestrates music specially for the orchestra.

Itchy Bay: Over 50s film project

Singing workshops with residents of Extra Care Homes for over 50s in County Durham to create the soundtrack for a short film project. Click here to watch this beautifully shot short film and to find out more about the project and other artists involved.

A Musical Environment

A 12-month music project which included improvisation and song writing based on environmental themes. The project comprised of a series of workshops in Nature Reserves around York, and a 4-month residency at St. Nicholas Field's Environment Centre. For Running Wild, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's youth programme. Another similar project was based in a parent & child after school club.

Moby Dick

Musical Director and voice coach for Flying Ducks Youth Theatre's annual production. Moby Dick frequently included multi-part singing and covered a range of musical styles from sea-shanties, to gospel, to boy-band pop.

Little Voices

Weekly singing and creative music sessions for parents and children. The specially designed Little Voices sessions introduced pre-school children to the world of music through songs, stories, movement and vocal-play.

Scenes of the Imagination

A 6-week Music Theatre project based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Experimental and Japanese art and culture were the inspiration for this project. The young people involved participated in a series of exploratory workshops which enabled them to take an active role in devising the final peformance.

Tin Pan Ali

Rehearsal pianist and voice coach for a youth theatre production of the Musical: Tin Pan Ali. This included working both with young people of a wide range of abilities from the gifted and talented to those who found singing challenging.

HMP Everthorpe

Music tutor on a Music Technology project for adult offenders on a drug rehabilitation scheme. Teaching keyboard skills and music theory to support and develop electronic composition skills. The project also included coaching and performing with the prison rock band.

Gamelan Workshops

Introductory workshops and composing with the gamelan projects with children, young people and adults. Including sessions for University of York's Higher Education Summer School.

Macham Macham!

An 8-week participant-lead project in which the young people involved were central to decision making from the outset. The resulting variety show included songs, dances, sketches, puppet shows all either chosen or devised and performed by the participants themselves.

Healthy Eating jingles

A song writing project, exploring the benefits of healthy eating. The children wrote songs and jingles to advertise their own fruit smoothie recipes and to encourage other children to eat more healthily.

A Creative Partnerships Project with KS 1 children.

Fairytale Findings

A music, literacy & science project culminating in a Fairytale Ball for both classes involved. This project combined the Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, the Sound Collector and other fairytales.
