Wonderful Wycoller Words: A Music & Literacy Project

This collaborative music and storytelling residency, explored how music and storytelling, combined with a visit to Wycoller, could be used to develop vocabulary, understanding and creative writing in Yr 2 children.

Sounds of the Sea

A series of workshops drawing inspiration from images of the sea. These composition workshops explored instrumental sounds and graphic notation. The project involved KS 1 & 2 groups in York schools.

Exploring Graphic Notation

Various sessions exploring the use of symbol and notation in recording musical ideas to create graphic scores. These sessions in varying degrees of complexity, have been used successfully with groups of all ages and abilities.
 

Composing with the Gamelan

Composition workshops based either on the Javanese gamelan instruments or combining Western classical instruments with the gamelan.

This project involved KS 3 & 4 groups from York but could be adapted for any ages group and level of ability.

A Musical Environment

A 12-month music project which included improvisation and song writing based on environmental themes. The project comprised of a series of workshops in Nature Reserves around York, and a 4-month residency at St. Nicholas Field's Environment Centre.

For Running Wild, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's youth programme. Another similar project was based in a parent & child after school club.
